Arrival and accommodation

Before you begin your stay in Thailand, here are a few basic things:

  1. To enter the country you will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months.
  2. No visa is required to enter Thailand for a maximum stay of 30 days.
  3. CAUTION: Overstays can be severely penalized. For longer stays, you can find the current visa regulations here.
  4. Cash can be withdrawn at any ATM using any standard debit card. However, make sure your card is authorized by your bank for use in the country. A fee of 180 THB (approximately €5) is charged per withdrawal (regardless of the amount).
  5. No vaccinations are required, but vaccinations against tetanus, diphtheria, polio, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, and possibly malaria prophylaxis are advisable. Consistent mosquito protection is important. Generally, medical standards are at Western levels.

Now we can get started. From Germany, you can fly to Phuket with various airlines. However, if you land in Bangkok and have a few other destinations in Thailand, you can fly to Phuket with a local airline for a small fee (approx. €35 one way), or you can take an overnight bus (approx. 12 hours). A train ride can also appeal to some adventurers. You can find train and rail timetables and many other useful information for your trip HERE.

Of course, we’re happy to help with any planning and other organizational matters. As always, our motto is: “Just talk to us, and we’ll get it done.”

Hotel, resort, or bungalow complex? A good question!

…and we hope we can give you a few answers here. As a package holidaymaker, this topic won’t interest you too much, as you’ve probably already booked your flight and hotel as a combination. For individual travelers, it’s a different story. Budgets are also generally more limited, and expectations are completely different. A large hotel block with full board is probably exactly what you don’t want. Small bungalow complexes or cozy resorts are more likely to be what you’re looking for. Food isn’t too much of a problem either. There are small food stalls on every corner, and should you ever fancy so-called “Farang food,” there are a variety of different restaurants to choose from.

We’re constantly striving to offer suggestions where, based on our own experience, you’ll be well-accommodated. Since almost nothing is possible on Phuket without mobility (moped or car), location isn’t necessarily the most important thing. You’ll probably be out and about all day, exploring the island and, of course, going diving. Good service, cleanliness, and friendliness are what we value.

We’ll be posting more suggestions here soon. Or you can simply tell us where you’d like to stay on Phuket, and we’ll organize it. Of course, it’s much easier to book directly on-site than from faraway Germany. And feel free to check out these various websites:

You’ll find a lot of useful information here, too. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.

Excursions and sights on Phuket

The holiday island of Phuket not only captivates with its stunning beaches and comfortable hotels, but also with its impressive sights that reveal something of Thai culture. Beyond the sea, there are also beautiful natural landscapes that are a must-see during your Phuket vacation (double-click for details).

In the island’s capital, Phuket Town, the old town center bears witness to the island’s colonial past. Many houses were built in the Portuguese colonial style, giving the town a unique charm. The influence of Chinese immigrants is also unmistakable here and there, most notably on Thalang Road. The Put Yaw temple complex was also built over 200 years ago by the Chinese in honor of their goddess Kuan Yin. You can also enjoy a magnificent view of the city from Khao Rang.

The 45-meter-tall statue of the Great Buddha of Phuket, crafted from snow-white marble and located on Nakkerd Hill in the south of the island, is visible from afar. The Wat Phra Nang Sang temple, with its large Buddha figures, is considered one of the island’s historical landmarks. The Wat Chalong temple complex houses statues of three important monks, and according to legend, Wat Phra Thong was built over an older temple in the 18th century. The Thalang National Museum, which presents numerous archaeological finds from various eras, provides information about Phuket’s history and life on the island.

The natural beauty of Phuket’s heart is also worth exploring. The Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary National Park, including the Ton Sai Waterfall, covers 22 square kilometers and can be explored along a dense network of hiking trails. With a little luck, you’ll spot some of the over 100 bird species, macaques, gibbon monkeys, and other animal species that live here. Meanwhile, the colorful splendor of countless butterflies at the Phuket Butterfly Garden will amaze you. At the southernmost point of the island, Phromthep Cape is a wonderful spot for couples who want to enjoy an unforgettable sunset. A visit to Ao Phang-nga National Park is also not to be missed. The breathtaking coastal landscapes with mangrove forests and striking limestone cliffs will be an unforgettable experience.
